Before reading Jonathan Jones article I had never heard of Jacopo Pontormo’s or his Portrait of a Man in a Red Cap. Much less the background to the portrait: Florence’s fledgling republic resisting the might of Charles V’s army. Here’s hoping that it can be kept in the UK.
